HAPPY FALL! Is anyone else super excited at the arrival of this season?
Fall is my favorite because of the crisp air, the weather, the colors, the foods and beverages, the scents. Who doesn’t love kicking back with a cozy blanket, a fall-scented candle, and a pumpkin or apple beverage?!
As a person who has no love for the heat and struggles with heat exhaustion – there isn’t much convincing for me. Not to mention, my favorite color scheme (oranges, yellows, reds) falls right into line with “fall colors”.
And the vibes are different. I think back-to-school means the return of routine for a lot of people, which I love because I find comfort in routine. Fall also means the return of football. Don’t count me in for going to a game or watching a big game, but I do like the sound of football in the background.
The icing on the cake that seals the deal for Fall? THE LIGHT! If you’ve been following me for a while, you know I’m obsessed with using and capturing the best light. The light looks different in the fall! The golden hours are better.
“During autumn, the tilt of the Earth means the sun is lower on the horizon, casting a longer, weaker ray of light, hence the glow that we’ve come to love and associate with this season. This is also why shadows are longer during the fall: because of the Earth’s tilt, the Sun’s light hits the Earth at a lower angle.” – La Residence by Leaon & George.
And Fall is BUSY!
It seems I’m not the only one who loves fall, because this season is always the busiest for both portraits and weddings.
For weddings, September and October are the most popular wedding months. Why? This is a two-fold answer…
If you’re looking for a fall wedding you better be on your A game & book a minimum of 1 year in advance (ASAP is ideal).
For portraits and engagement sessions, Fall is also great! This timeline allows people to get their photos back in time for gifts for family and/or use for Holiday cards.
Here are some FAQ’s I usually get about Fall Portraits:
Back to the lighting – this is a must! The photo shoot will be set for an evening during golden hour in the evenings (this is a non-negotiable).
Now that it’s officially fall – remember that the days will progressively get shorter until the winter equinox in December. So keep that in mind for the timing of your portraits! Click here to read more on what to expect from the light in the fall.
After your fall portraits, we can work together to create a gallery wall, your holiday or New Year’s cards, a portrait book – you name it!
